Careers and Work Experience
Our award-winning Careers Department aims to equip every Lawrencian with all the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions about life beyond School.
We are fully committed to providing exceptional careers advice to our students throughout their time at St. Lawrence and achieve this by delivering an in-house Careers Programme to support students in:
- Making well-informed decisions at key points of academic progression in Senior 4 and 6.
- Developing the skills and professional awareness needed to navigate the world of work in the 21st century.
- Applying for opportunities post-St. Lawrence, including local university applications, overseas study and degree apprenticeships.
Our dedicated Careers Department, led by a team of experienced professionals, offers a comprehensive range of services to support students' career aspirations. We organize a variety of events, including careers exhibitions and workshops, to expose students to different career paths. Our strong network of alumni and industry professionals provides valuable insights and opportunities for work experience placements. We also offer personalized guidance on university applications, including support for admissions tests and interviews. Our commitment to student success extends beyond graduation, as we continue to provide support and advice to our alumni.
Leavers’ Destination A significant number of our students over the years have secured placements at prestigious universities both locally and internationally.Local Universities: Many of our students have been accepted into top Ugandan universities such as Makerere University, Kyambogo University, and Mbarara University of Science and Technology.International Universities: A significant number of our students have gained admission to renowned universities in Europe and beyond, including the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, the London School of Economics, and the University of Edinburgh.Additionally, several students have embarked on specialized programs, such as medicine, veterinary science, and art and design, at both local and international institutions.

Makerere University (MUK)
In Senior Six, we encourage all students with outstanding UACE results to consider applying to Makerere University (MUK) or Makerere University Business School (MUBS). For those who aspire to attend these prestigious institutions, we offer comprehensive support and guidance. Our subject specialists and the Senior Academic Mentor work closely with students to help them maximize their potential and present strong applications.
Medical/Clinical courses
A significant number of our Senior Six students aspire to pursue careers in medicine and other healthcare fields. To support these aspirations, we offer a range of activities, including mock interviews, personal statement workshops, and guidance on the application process. Our students have successfully gained admission to prestigious medical schools in Uganda and abroad..
