St. Lawrence Secondary School typically admits students at two primary entry points:

• Senior One: Students typically join Senior One at the age of 13 or 14.

Securing Your Child's Place

To secure your child's place at St. Lawrence Secondary School, please complete the admission application form and submit a registration fee of UGX 150,000.

Key Registration Dates:

• O-Level:Early March or immediately after O-Level exam results are released.
• A-Level:Early May or immediately after A-Level exam results are released.

Q. What day and boarding options do you offer?

A. St. Lawrence Secondary School offers both boarding and day options.

• Boarding:Our boarding facilities provide a nurturing and supportive environment for students. Boarders have access to a range of activities and opportunities, including sports, music, drama, and academic support.
• Day:Day students are an integral part of our school community and benefit from the same high-quality education and extracurricular activities as boarding students. We offer flexible day options to cater to different family needs.

 

A Unique Approach to A-Level Studies

At St. Lawrence, we take a unique approach to A-Level education. Our Senior Six students are separated into gender-specific study groups, fostering a focused and disciplined learning environment. This approach encourages independence, self-motivation, and a strong sense of community.

While students are separated for focused study, there are ample opportunities for social interaction and collaboration. This balance ensures that our A-Level students are well-prepared for the challenges of higher education and beyond.

 

Entry Points and Assessment

St. Lawrence Secondary School primarily admits students at two key entry points:

• Senior One (O-Level): Students typically join Senior One at the age of 13 or 14. Admission is based on the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results, with a focus on selecting students who meet specific academic standards.
• Senior Five (A-Level): Students join Senior Five after completing their O-Level examinations. Admission is based on the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results, with a specific aggregate score required for entry.

For students transferring from another school, an assessment process may be required to determine the appropriate placement. This assessment typically involves written tests and interviews.

 

St. Lawrence Secondary School offers a range of scholarships to recognize and reward exceptional talent. These scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, artistic ability, or athletic prowess. In addition to scholarships, we offer financial assistance to families who may need support. This assistance can help alleviate the financial burden of a St. Lawrence education. To apply for a scholarship, please contact our Admissions Team. They will provide you with the necessary application forms and guidance. We recommend seeking a confidential reference from your child's current or previous school to support their application. A form for this provision will be sent with the application form.

 

Each year we are able to offer additional financial support to parents of children who are awarded a scholarship, but who would otherwise be unable to afford the fees. This means-tested financial support is offered through the School’s bursary funding scheme. Whilst scholarships give limited financial support, there is no upper limit to the value of bursarial support; however, the number of bursaries available in any one year does depend on funds available.For additional information on bursaries, please contact the Head of Administration & Admissions, who can give advice and arrange for the Finance Bursar to send the appropriate forms.

 

Learning Support at St. Lawrence

We are committed to providing support for students with specific learning difficulties. Our dedicated Learning Support team offers tailored assistance to students from Forms 1 to 6.

Key Support Services:

• Small Group Support: For students in Forms 1-3, we offer small group support sessions to reinforce learning and address specific needs.
• Individual and Paired Support:For students in Forms 4-6 with identified Specific Learning Difficulties, we provide personalized support to help them reach their full potential.
• Specialized Facilities:Our Learning Support department is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and resources to create a conducive learning environment.

To ensure we can provide the best possible support, please inform us about any learning difficulties your child may have during the initial inquiry process. Sharing relevant assessments or reports will help us tailor our support to their specific needs.

Our dedicated team of EAL teachers provides expert support to students whose first language is not English. Through tailored small-group and individual lessons, as well as in-class support, we help students develop their language skills and academic abilities. Our EAL program also includes preparation for the IELTS exam, ensuring that students are well-equipped for future academic and professional endeavors.

 

While St. Lawrence Secondary School does not currently offer a school bus service for day students, we have a school van available for specific school-related activities and trips.Theschool is actively exploring options to expand its transportation services, including the potential acquisition of a larger school bus with a capacity of 90 students. This initiative aims to enhance convenience and accessibility for our students.

AA typical school day begins with morning assembly at 8:15 AM, followed by a series of 40-minute lessons. Students enjoy a mid-morning break and a nutritious lunch in the school dining hall. Afternoons are filled with a mix of academic lessons, sports activities, and co-curricular pursuits. Evenings provide ample time for leisure activities, such as socializing with friends, engaging in hobbies, or completing homework.

 

Our weekly timetable includes lessons from Monday to Saturday morning, allowing ample time for a wide range of co-curricular activities. This structured approach ensures that students receive a well-rounded education, balancing academic pursuits with extracurricular interests.

Weekends at StLawrence are very busy. With the exception of Lower One (Year 6), everyone has lessons on Saturday mornings. In the Lower School, there are plenty of activities and trips every weekend. Saturday afternoon is when the majority of sports fixtures take place against other schools in the Middle and Upper School. Following an afternoon of sport, there are usually House events or School events, such as formal dinners, talks, barbecues, boarders’ socials and so on. Sunday is a day when boarders can enjoy trips and outings, some of which are organised by Houses and others are school-wide. It is also a day when those involved in theatre productions and choir might rehearse. Some pupils choose to spend time in the Art Department or Library catching up on prep and others sometimes choose to relax and spend time with friends. There is always something to do and no child is ever bored!
